“
HOLI HAI”
An
obnoxious Killing Festival in India.
Recently India was declared as the second most
ignorant nation in the world. The sur
vey conducted by IPSOS MORI a London based market research firm. This ignorance come to us prominently when we notice the Government of India celebrates Holi, Navaratri, Janmastami and such other holy days based on the Brahmanical mythology. It is ridiculous to say that these holidays don’t have any historical support rather it has hidden political agendas to establish Brahmins as superpower over the aboriginals in India.

Who
was this HOLI or HOLIKA?
Is
there any historical evidence about Holika ? We notice that the drama of
DASHAKUAR CHARIT by the play writer Dandin explained on Holi Festival. King
Harshavardhan also indicated Holi Festival in his drama “Ratnavali”. In some
miniatures in the court of Mughal Emperors we have seen several paintings on
Holi Festival and Dolpurnima.
In
the Bhagvat Puran and Visnu Puran we get Holika as a royal sister of an ASSUR
king Hiranyakashyapu.
The
invasion of Aryans and spreading of CHATYURVARNA was not very smooth rather
fighting and defeating of the Assura kings. Hiranyakashyapu was a greatest king
once a time. He tried to make free of
his country from Brahmanical system. The system contain with giving permission
of Yagna, Taxes, free gifts, giving of land and cows, giving of sura and young
girls for sexual pleasure. Hiranyakashapu regretted to accept these brahmanical
proposals filling abusive for his country. He decided to fight against Aryan
regiment.
Once
he was out of the capital to observe the preparation of his solders in the
training camp. The cunning Indra made attack his capital and stolen gold, wine
and the beautiful wife of Hiranyakashapu Kayadhu or Kaparu though she was
pregnant at that time. Sage Narada saved her and rehabilitated her in his
Asram. Queen Kayadhu gave birth a son PRAHLLAD. Sage Narada took care of him and taught him as
his habit to chant NARAYANA, NARAYANA.
Hiranyakashyapu attacked Visnupuri and made free to his wife and
beautiful son Prahllad and bring them in his capital Hiranyapuri (the capital
of gold). Surprisingly he noticed that Prahllad chants NARAYANA, NARAYANA. He
decided to make liberate his son and entrusted this task to his sister
HOLIKA.
The
Bhagvat Purana said that, Hiranyakashyapu dicided to kill his son and made
several incidents. At last he arranged a Yagnavedi on which Holika made sit
with Prahllad on her laps as she was fire proof. But by the magical power of the chant
NARAYANA Prahllad came out but Holika burnt into ashes. It was the night of
full moon in the month of FALGUNA. After
this Lord Vishnu killed Hiranyakashyapu becoming NRISDHIMHA figure. It was an
incarnation of Vishnu with half man and half lion figure. From then Brahmins started celebration of “HOLI”
as their day of victory over the aboriginal Assura.
It
has strong support in traditional folk tale and worship of MOTHER HOLIKA. The aboriginal people of south, middle and
Western India have been bearing this culture and tradition. They believe that,
Holika was very responsible teacher and respectful RAJMATA to take care of the
people giving them good governance. Slowly she informed Prahllad about the true
facts expecting to liberate Prahllad from Brahmins control. Prahllad became aware
and imposed Brahmins ban Yajnas, offering free gifts, lands, food grains, cows,
wine and young girls for sexual pleasure.
Brahmins
found Holika as the main advisor of Prahllad to ban them from all kinds of giving
facilities. They attacked Hiranyapuri and jailed Holika kept her without any
food and water. The innocent citizen
heard Holika crying for food and water.
They assembled in the city and requested Prahllad to make free of their
holy mother. The royal solders set free
of their beloved mother from Brahmins. But the very same night Brahmins attacked
Holika brought out an open ground and tied her in a wooden pole. The villagers
gathered with food and water crying for their beloved MATA HOLIKA. The
merciless Brahmins burnt her with grass fire.
Fallen
into grief the villagers worshiped their beloved mother Holika with scent and
burnt the dead body properly with sandal wood. They offered her foods, water
and clothes and moved around the CHITA with grief. This worship gradually stands into an annual funeral
worship of the aboriginal people.
In
the Gupta period Brahmins wrote Puranas and imposed the funeral worship as Holi
festival. Before the day of Holi the
festival starts with burning holika
called HOLOKA DAHAN or burning of the hut of BUDHI. The burning acts start with
anger and obnoxious shouting “HOLI HAI”.
The
alternative way of celebrating Spring Season:
There
are many ways of worshiping nature and it’s spring season. Santhal people
worship the season of flower as BAHABONGA. The Kurmi people called it SARHUL. It is FAGUA in Bhojpuri culture. In Maharastra
it is called SIMGA but in Goa and Konkan it is called SIGMO. In Malayalam
language it is called MANJALKULI or yellow bath. In Tamil language it is called
PANGUNI UTTHIRAM. All these spring festival organize by the aboriginals of
India is very colorful. Its bring messages of love, peace and brotherhood.
We
can learn from our beloved poet Rabindranath Tagore also. He was the great Nobel-laureate who, under the overwhelming
influence of the beautiful spring season on his poetic mind, introduced this
lovely annual event in Vishwabharati University in Shantiniketan in Bolpur,
West Bengal, India. In every year, the students and the youth of the
institution, appareled in colorful dresses welcome and celebrate the king of
season spring in a very traditional way. A number of cultural programs,
including group choreography, songs and dance performances is organized under
the tree. The programs are followed by playing of natural colors as all the students
of the university smear each other with colored powders and express festive
wishes.
But
the Holi festival symbolized as the festival of killing, burning and filling
anger. It also associated with consumerism and business.
We
should avoid this brutal festival of killing of an aboriginal mother HOLIKA and
celebrate the spring festival with our traditional way of Indian culture.
